Six years ago this week, the Bangladesh government formed the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to crack down on criminals. Human rights organizations report that RAB has killed more than 1,000 citizens. ”Crossfire,” a new photo exhibition by Shahidul Alam that opened in Dhaka, Bangladesh on March 22, examines sites where the extrajudicial killings took place, often before dawn.

A Buddhist monk hit a snag while crossing the road. Travel photographer Sharon Tenenbaum was there to capture the moment as he looked “back at me with an embarrassed face and a smile.” This image was included in the winners gallery of the 2010 PDN World In Focus travel photography contest.

Pictured here is Olya posing for portrait in “Traktir” café, where she waitresses. Behind her is the background painting showing the Russian fleet entering Sevastopol harbor. Warsaw, Poland-based commercial photographer Rafal Milach works on personal projects mostly in Russia and Russian speaking countries. With the help of the Eastern-Central European photographers, he set up the photo collective called Sputnik Photos to show more of what is happening in that region.
